About Dr. Piazza

Dr. Piazza specializes in providing empirically supported treatments for adults who have experienced trauma, have anxiety, and have phobias. She has clinical experience and training in a variety of evidence-based protocols for PTSD and associated symptoms (Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, Imagery Rehearsal Therapy for nightmares) and has also completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Dr. Piazza uses Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) to treat phobias. VRET is a cutting-edge approach that uses immersive technology to treat fears associated with social anxiety and various phobias, including fear of flying, fear of driving (on bridges and in tunnels), fear of heights, fear of public spaces, fear of closed spaces, and fear of animals. She is also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based treatment for depression and anxiety that helps the client develop tools to accept their thoughts and feelings, be fully present, and commit to living a meaningful and valued life.

Dr. Piazza also enjoys working with couples using the Gottman Method. Gottman Couples Therapy offers evidence-based strategies to help couples reconnect, communicate effectively, manage conflict better, and build lasting, fulfilling relationships.

Dr. Piazza values being authentic in her clinical interactions and is genuinely invested in her clients’ health. She is results-oriented in helping her clients achieve their treatment goals. She works collaboratively with her clients and elicits frequent feedback in order to ensure that therapy is meeting her client’s needs. She emphasizes cultivating a strong therapeutic relationship, as the client-therapist relationship is viewed as the vehicle through which growth and change occur.

Dr. Piazza earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. While completing her doctorate degree, she received training in both inpatient and outpatient settings working with a variety of presenting concerns. Following her pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship, both of which she completed at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, she continued there as a psychologist in the Military Sexual Trauma program. She then worked at a premiere group practice in New Orleans for almost seven years prior to starting a private practice uptown in the Riverbend area.
